Do I Need a Permit First?

The county requires a current permit for all six centers, and attendants check for it at the gate. Permits are issued once a year and must be renewed by January 31. Each household gets one, and you bring proof of residency: a tax or utility bill, a mortgage statement or a lease. Permits are handed out at the Commissioner's Office in Buchanan.

The permit is free in unincorporated Haralson County and in Buchanan and Waco. In Bremen and Tallapoosa it costs $40 a year, and the county notes that those two cities opted out of its sanitation program. If you live in either city and have questions about service, the county points you to your mayor. For anything else, call the county at 770-646-2002.

Haralson County Landfill and Transfer Station: Address, Phone and Hours

For furniture, metal, tires and other items the convenience centers are not set up for, the county lists its landfill at 224 Budapest Cemetery Road, Tallapoosa, GA 30176. The phone is 770-574-5414. Hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

People often search for the county's solid waste transfer station. The county's pages do not use that name, and the landfill is the solid waste disposal site they list. The page says it accepts household trash, metal, furniture, tires and similar items, and that some fees may apply. It does not say who may use the site or what the fees are, so call before you go, especially with a commercial load. Bowdon Disposal is a private curbside service, not the county facility.

If You Would Rather Not Haul It Yourself

Some households like the drop-off routine and some would rather have the cart emptied at the curb. Bowdon Disposal does curbside only: weekly pickup with a 95-gallon cart included, for homes in and around Bremen, Buchanan, Tallapoosa and Waco. Coverage depends on your exact address, so call (470) 943-3355 or start on the pricing page. If rolling a cart out is the hard part, Trash Butler comes to your door.
