West Georgia Garden Cleanup: Managing Spring Debris Without Breaking Trash Rules
Bowdon Disposal
Spring Has Sprung in West Georgia — And So Has the Garden Debris
May in West Georgia means one thing: gardens are in full swing. From Carrollton to Bremen, from Villa Rica to Franklin, homeowners are deep into spring planting, pruning, and cleanup. The azaleas have finished their show, the dogwoods are leafing out, and vegetable gardens are getting their summer plants.
But all that gardening creates a mountain of debris — and not all of it belongs in your red Bowdon Disposal cart.
What Garden Debris CAN Go in Your Cart
Small amounts of organic waste are perfectly fine for your weekly pickup:
- Bagged grass clippings (in regular trash bags, not loose)
- Small pruned branches (under 3 feet long, bundled or bagged)
- Weeds and pulled plants (bagged up)
- Dead flowers and spent annuals
- Small amounts of leaves from spring cleanup
- Vegetable garden waste like old tomato plants (bagged)
The key word here is small amounts. Your cart needs to close completely with nothing sticking out, and the Red Angels need to be able to lift it safely.
What Garden Debris Does NOT Go in Your Cart
Ceramic and Clay Items (Safety Hazard)
This is the big one that trips people up. Ceramic pots, clay planters, and terracotta containers are prohibited. They’re heavy, they shatter, and they can seriously injure our crew. This includes:
- Broken flower pots of any size
- Cracked ceramic planters
- Clay saucers and decorative pottery
- Terracotta pots (even small ones)
When ceramic breaks in the truck, it creates dangerous shards that can cut through gloves and trash bags.
Large Amounts of Yard Waste
- Huge piles of grass clippings (more than 2-3 bags worth)
- Tree limbs and large branches (anything over 3 feet or thick as your arm)
- Stumps, logs, or chunks of wood
- Bags and bags of leaves from major cleanup projects
- Construction debris from garden projects (lumber, concrete blocks, landscape timbers)
Other Problem Items
- Dirt, soil, or potting mix (too heavy — can break the cart or injure crew)
- Rocks, gravel, or landscaping stones
- Large bags of mulch or bark
- Paint cans from fence or shed projects (unless completely dried out with lids removed)
Smart Solutions for Big Garden Projects
For Large Cleanup Projects
If you’re doing major spring cleanup — clearing brush, removing old landscaping, or tackling years of overgrowth — your regular cart isn’t the answer. Call us at (470) 943-3355 to discuss temporary dumpster solutions for bigger projects.
For Ceramic and Clay Disposal
Most Carroll, Haralson, and Heard County residents can take ceramic planters and pottery to their county’s solid waste facility. Check with your local waste authority for drop-off locations and hours.
For Yard Waste Programs
Some areas in West Georgia have seasonal yard waste pickup programs through the county. These handle larger amounts of organic debris that won’t fit in your regular cart.
The Trash Butler Advantage for Gardeners
If you’re spending weekends elbow-deep in garden soil, the last thing you want to worry about is dragging a heavy cart to the curb. Trash Butler service means the Red Angels handle everything — they’ll walk your cart from wherever you keep it, empty it, and bring it back.
Perfect for gardeners who:
- Have long driveways or uphill walks to the road
- Deal with mobility issues that make cart handling difficult
- Want to focus on gardening, not trash logistics
- Have multiple carts due to large properties
Pro Tips for Spring Garden Cleanup
Bag Everything
Loose debris creates problems. Even small branches and clippings should go in regular trash bags. This keeps everything contained and makes pickup safer for our crew.
Don’t Pack Too Heavy
Remember, the Red Angels have to lift your cart into the truck. Soil-heavy bags or water-logged debris can make carts too heavy to handle safely.
Plan Big Projects
If you’re planning major landscaping work, call us first. We can help you figure out the best disposal solution before you start, not after you’ve got a mountain of debris.
When in Doubt, Ask
Unsure if something belongs in your cart? Call (470) 943-3355 and ask. We’d rather answer questions upfront than deal with prohibited items on pickup day.
