Winter Storm Prep: What West Georgia Residents Need to Know About Trash Pickup
Bowdon Disposal
Winter Weather is Coming to West Georgia
Living in Carroll County, Haralson County, and Heard County means we know winter weather can be unpredictable. One day it’s 60 degrees, and the next we’re dealing with ice storms that shut down highways and make our rural roads impassable. As your local trash service, Bowdon Disposal wants to make sure you’re prepared for whatever Mother Nature throws our way this winter.
How Winter Weather Affects Your Trash Pickup
When ice storms or snow hit West Georgia, safety becomes our top priority. Our drivers know these back roads in Bowdon, Carrollton, Villa Rica, and all our service areas like the back of their hands, but even the most experienced driver can’t navigate icy conditions safely.
Here’s what happens during severe weather:
- Routes may be delayed by 1-2 days depending on road conditions
- We’ll post updates on our Facebook and Instagram (@bowdon_disposal) pages
- Customers will receive notifications through our customer portal at https://bowdondisposal.com/account
- No service charges apply for weather-related delays
Preparing Your Trash for Winter Weather
Before the storm hits, there are several steps you can take to make pickup easier once conditions improve:
Secure Your Cart:
- Move your 95-gallon red cart to a sheltered area if possible
- Weigh down the lid with a brick or heavy object to prevent wind damage
- Keep the cart accessible from the road — don’t let it get buried behind snow drifts
Bag Everything Properly:
- Double-bag wet or potentially messy items
- Tie bags securely to prevent spillage if the cart tips over
- Avoid overfilling during winter months when pickup may be delayed
Special Considerations for Trash Butler Customers
If you’re one of our Trash Butler customers who enjoys the convenience of having your cart walked to and from the curb, winter weather creates some unique considerations. During severe weather events, even our Trash Butler service may need modifications for safety reasons.
Our crew will still make every effort to provide full service, but if conditions are too dangerous for walking on your driveway or walkway, we may need you to place the cart at the curb temporarily. We’ll always communicate these changes in advance through our customer portal.
What to Do During Extended Delays
Sometimes winter storms in West Georgia can create extended delays — especially in our more rural areas around Tallapoosa, Waco, and Franklin where power lines and trees commonly block roads.
If your pickup is delayed more than two days:
- Don’t overfill your cart when service resumes
- Consider temporarily reducing waste generation
- Store extra bags in your garage or covered area until the next pickup
- Check our social media for the latest updates on route restoration
Storm Debris: What We Can and Can’t Handle
After winter storms pass, you might have additional debris like fallen branches, damaged patio furniture, or other storm-related waste. Our standard residential service handles regular household trash, but storm debris requires special consideration.
We can handle:
- Small branches that fit in your cart
- Damaged household items that fit properly
- Regular trash that accumulated during delays
We cannot handle:
- Large tree limbs or whole trees
- Roofing materials or construction debris
- Hazardous materials damaged by storms
