5 Things That Should Never Go in Your Trash Cart

Keep These Out of Your Cart

We love picking up your trash — that is literally what we do! But there are a few items that should never go in your curbside cart. Putting the wrong things in there can damage our trucks, injure our crew, or create environmental hazards.

Here are five common items to keep out:

1. Batteries

Batteries — especially lithium-ion ones from phones, laptops, and power tools — can catch fire inside a trash truck. This is a real safety hazard for our crew. Take old batteries to a local household hazardous waste collection event or a retail drop-off location like Home Depot or Lowe’s.

2. Paint and Chemicals

Liquid paint, motor oil, pesticides, and cleaning chemicals should never go in your cart. These can leak and contaminate other waste. Many auto parts stores accept used motor oil, and your county may hold periodic hazardous waste collection days.

3. Electronics

Old TVs, computers, and monitors contain materials that should be recycled, not landfilled. Check with Carroll, Haralson, or Heard County for e-waste recycling options.

4. Hot Ashes or Coals

After a weekend cookout, make sure your grill ashes are completely cold before putting them in any container. Hot ashes have caused fires inside trash carts and trucks. Wait at least 48 hours and douse with water before disposal.

5. Construction Debris

Large amounts of lumber, drywall, concrete, or roofing materials are too heavy and bulky for curbside pickup. Contact us about special pickup options for renovation projects.
